Exhausted by Reflection

Author: Soren Kierkegaard
Book: The Present Age, Page #42

"The results of reflection are both dangerous and unforeseeable because one can never tell whether the decision which saves a man from evil is reached after thorough consideration, or whether it is simply the exhaustion resulting from reflection which prevents him from doing wrong."

A paltry age

Author: Soren Kierkegaard
Book: Kierkegaard Anthology

“Let others complain that the age is wicked; my complaint is that it is wretched, for it lacks passion. Men’s thoughts are thin and flimsy like lace, they themselves are pitiable like the lacemakers. The thoughts of their hearts are too paltry to be sinful. For a worm it might be regarded a sin to harbor such thoughts, but not for a being made in the image of God. Their lusts are dull and sluggish, their passions sleepy.
